“I know it must seem odd to you that we took our precious blue planet for granted and came close to making it uninhabitable for humans, but it's true. ”

I know it must seem odd to you that we took our precious blue planet for granted and came close to making it uninhabitable for humans, but it's true. After Paris, there was finally an awakening and the ones who claimed global warming was a hoax went silent. We recognized that the little things we did to convince ourselves that we were part of the solution were nothing against the primary forces bringing about climate change, and instead of spending one's resources on driving an Eco-conscious car, wearing sustainably-produced clothing, and reusing ziplock baggies, we needed to get actively involved in the political process and be willing to fight harder then the major contributors to change would fight for the status quo.

In the USA, we recognized that our consumption, and the percentage of world's resources necessary to sustain it, was criminal. We apologized to the world for our selfish, violent actions used to sustain it. We became a model of sacrifice by dramatically reducing our rate of consumption. We made amends by putting the same focus on solving global warming as we did to get a man on the moon, and we gave away the solutions as open source. We forced the biggest contributors of climate change to reverse course starting with the multi-national energy companies. We made them pay the full price for their resource extraction without subsidies and without wars, and for the environmental damage they caused. We built the clean energy economic model that has enhanced the global standard of living. And, when the true costs of our reliance on fossil fuel were passed on, people stopped getting into planes and cars, and started universally walking, riding their bikes, and carpooling. They started living together in cooperative communities instead of alone. Including me.

I often wondered : if someone like me, who sees the problem and the danger it poses is not actively involved in the political action necessary to make radical change, then who will be? And, how are we going to save this planet for our children? So, after Paris, I took action, and I asked a friend to take action, and the two of us asked two more friends, etc. That's how we fixed it.

So keep on eye on our precious blue planet, don't ever take it for granted again, and be willing to fight for it.
